Proportional Reasoning

Image result for football player clipartThe answer to last week's blog math question was that one football player's mass was 115 kg, so eleven of them would be 1 265 kg.  After reviewing the solutions I noticed that some students need to improve in the following areas:
-the question must be copied on the top of the page - the solution will mean nothing in the future without the question
-all steps of problem solving must be shown.  See the anchor charts for reference.
-we must show all steps and explain what we are doing..... since the mass of 115 kg was not in the question, you must show how you arrived at that amount
-the order of factors in multiplication sentences are still incorrect in some cases:  11 x 115 kg means eleven groups of one hundred fifteen kilograms which is correct BUT 115 kg x 11 means one hundred fifteen kilograms groups of eleven which does not make sense
-some students set up the division sentence incorrectly
-we DO NOT use commas in large numbers
-final statements must always be used

Here is the next question.  It is due Tuesday October 25 at 8:10 AM.  Please make sure the lined piece of paper has the question copied on it, the steps of problem solving are used, and your name is on it.
