Proportional Reasoning

Image result for proportional reasoningBeginning today, and continuing for a while, one proportional reasoning/proportional relationship math question will be assigned via this blog every Wednesday.  Each student in the class is required to complete it, using the steps of problem solving as outlined in class, on our anchor charts, and using the success criteria that can be found on the Numeracy Anchor Chart Archive page of our website.  Unless otherwise indicated, the math question is always due the following Tuesday, therefore you have one week to compete the one extra math question.  We will begin with easy questions at first, then get more challenging as the year progresses.  The questions may be completed at home, at school, or anywhere.  If there are indoor recesses, this is a good thing to do as well.
Here are the expectations:
1. Check the blog any time on Wednesday to find the new question.  Copy the question onto a lined piece of binder paper.  Include your name and the date at the top of the page.
2. Complete the question using all of the steps of problem solving.
3. Put your work in the IN BOX in the classroom no later than 8:10 AM the following Tuesday.
4. Check the blog the following day to see if you were correct or not.  Your paper will be checked by Mrs. Colautti and returned to you.  You will store it in the current math duo tang that is being used to store worksheets, grid paper, etc.
5.  Repeat steps 1-4 until Mrs. Colautti runs out of questions.

*Please note that proportional reasoning/proportional relationships is very much part of the math curriculum, and one that students tend to struggle with.  It has already been formally taught in class when we were working on rate for both grades, so this is one way for us to practise a difficult concept.

Image result for videosThe following question is due on Tuesday October 11, 2016 at 8:10 AM.

Three videos cost $9. How much would 12 videos cost?  Justify your thinking.
