Blog Math

Image result for ceramic tileCongratulations to the students who successfully answered last week's blog math question.  The correct answer was that 160 tiles were needed and they would cost $350.40.

There still seems to be confusion about how to convert from square centimetres to square metres and vice versa.  Some students also forgot to calculate the area of one tile before dividing to figure out how many were needed.  Finally, some students are still not correctly writing money.  There must always be two digits to the right of the decimal, not just one.  Please note that last week we redid the previous question together in class so that all students would understand and be reminded of how to write down a thorough solution.

Here is the next question which is due on Tuesday February 28.

Image result for ceramic wall tile bathroom   The dimensions of a bathroom are 3 m by 4 m.  The height of the ceiling is 3 m.  A family is renovating their bathroom and decided that they want to tile all four walls (not the ceiling or floor).  Each wall tile measures 20 cm by 30 cm.  How many tiles would be needed to cover the walls?  If each tile costs $1.99, how much would all of the needed tile cost?  Justify your thinking.

Image result for 3D solid prismsPlease note that the next math test will be held on Monday February 27 and will include:  metric conversions, surface area, volume, drawing solids using isometric dot paper, drawing top front, and side views of solids.  Grade six students will work with rectangular and triangular prisms only, while the grade sevens are responsible for working with any right prism.  Please refer to the many anchor charts on our website.

Book talk rubrics are being returned today.  Literacy evaluations will be returned once all students have completed them.
