We Are Becoming Problem Solvers!

Today I introduced (or hopefully reintroduced) the problem solving process in math to our class. We discussed a wide variety of strategies that can be used to solve problems, and the specific steps that are required to complete the question.  The students seem to understand how important it is to write down the whole process of finding the solution, and not just the answer.  We did a question together for shared math.  Next week we will continue the process in small groups, partners, and eventually individually.  Please refer to the information on the Parents' Place page of our site as a reference.

For homework this weekend, please practise and memorize your multiplication facts to 12x12.  This is a very important skill which will aid with many aspects of our math work this year!

I am very impressed with how well our independent reading has developed this week.  Many students tell me that they are getting "lost" in their book and some even ask to read at other times during the day.  This is fantastic!  Reading is everything and it is so very important!  Make sure you read daily at home this weekend!  No one wants to be a "word caller"!
