Ash Wednesday and Blog Math

Today marks the first day of Lent, a time when we prepare our minds and hearts for Easter - the most important Holy day in our liturgical year.  We mark our foreheads with a cross of ashes as an outward sign, but what else should Catholics do?  Check out this video for some ideas.  *We are also trying for meatless lunches today and each Friday during lent.  Give it a shot!

Image result for red 2010 dodge chargerCongratulations to those students who completed their blog math on time.  Only three students had to complete it at recess.  Hopefully your child has reported to you that they earn at least one Good News ticket when their work is handed in on time.  Now, in order to get at least one, their answer must be correct as well.  Some students have earned as many as three Good News tickets for a top quality response, using the steps of problem solving.

The answer to last week's question is 420 km.  In order to achieve this, you should recognize that the 280 km for 3 hours that was given in the question is a multiple of the 1.5 additional hours that is asked for.  Therefore, 280 km divided by 2 = 140 km every 1.5 hours.  To find the grand total, add the 280 and 140 to get 420 km. You should not be working with decimal amounts for kilometres for this question, otherwise your answer will not be accurate enough.

Here is the next question.  It is due Tuesday February 16 at 8:10 AM.  Please copy the question on a lined piece of paper, complete it using the steps of problem solving, and place it in the IN BOX on or before the due date.
