Solid Understanding!

Keep those vocabulary words coming in!  We have developed quite a collection, as you might imagine.  This week we will use them at a literacy workstation, so that the students will have the opportunity to learn others' words and internalize some of them so that they may expand their vocabulary.

As we wind down our work in geometry for this term, we worked with paper to investigate the relationship between nets and solids.  In past years, students were given nets, required to cut, fold, and tape to produce solids, then describe their attributes, naming them correctly.  In grade six we take it a little further.  We need to create our own nets, understand when existing nets do not produce the desired solids, and how to modify them so that they do.
