Calculating Area Homework

Today we reviewed how to calculate the area of rectangles.  I posed a problem to the students to get them started.  I gave each student a set of tangrams and asked them to create any rectangle using two or more pieces.  After that, they traced their figure on a piece of paper and calculated the area.

Next we generated our anchor chart for calculating area of rectangles.  See the anchor chart archive page to assist with completing your homework.  Finally, the students were asked to complete six questions to demonstrate that they can work with area of rectangles independently.  For those students who are absent today, it is your responsibility to complete this work.  There is a photo of the handout here and you can download it and print it out as well.  It can be found on the assignments page of the website.  Please complete this at home today and hand it in tomorrow morning when you arrive.  There is a brand new duo tang on your desk that we will use for our measurement strand.
