On Monday, I introduced our class to the idea of debating. This is the process where teams work together to either support or oppose a motion. In order for this to be done effectively, research must be done so that accurate facts are reported on by both sides of the argument. Each person in each debate team must prepare a speech that relates to his/her position on the team. When it is debate day, each side will present their position, with time restrictions, and will be moderated by me. The rest of the class that is not on the presenting debate team will be the audience and will get to vote on the more effective argument: for or against the motion. Let's see which side will win! Here are the current debate teams and their topics. Talk about it around the dinner table or on the way to soccer practice!
