Talent Show and Good Bye Ms. Blain

On Thursday we had a Canada Day celebration in the gym to showcase some of the many talented students we have.  I videoed the two acts that involved students from our class.  Enjoy!

On Wednesday our school held a tribute assembly to wish Mr. Talbot and Mrs. Blain well because they will no longer be Guardians.  Pictured here is the plaque that our class gave to Mrs. Blain.  Our class decided to rename the original GaGa pit in her honour.

Attention grade seven students and families:  The grade 8 Muskoka Woods trip is scheduled for October 13-16, 2017.  Although we do not know the cost exactly at this time, I can tell you that the cost this year was $445.00 per student.  Don't forget that those of you that have been participating in the advance fund raising events will pay less. You may also need to purchase supplies needed during this trip, in advance of the trip.

VIP Graduation, Unicorns, and Curry Park

The Graduates
Congratulations to all of the grade six students who successfully completed the requirements of the VIP program.  We celebrated on Tuesday with a ceremony and pot luck.  Check out the photos.

Thank you Inspector Mizuno!

Some students were recognized for going above and beyond the
call of duty with the community service requirement.

Unicorns are real!
On Wednesday morning we spent some time at Curry Park to fulfill the last of the incentives that the students earned earlier this year.  Check out the photos.

Debate Teams #2

If you viewed yesterday's post, you will notice a dramatic improvement in this last set of debates which were done on June 26.  Students were asked to research more, and prepare for the opposing views of their subject. In addition, more rehearsal of their speeches and more passion in the delivery was encouraged.  Finally, they were encouraged to refute the presentation of the opposite view.  Check it out!

Again, there were some uploading issues with the last video, so as a result you may click here to view Team Purple's debate.  Enjoy!

For the first debate:
1.  Junk food should be banned from schools - Team Red proposition side.
2.  Single-sex schools are better for education - Team Blue proposition side.
3.  All people should be vegetarians - Team Orange opposition side.
4.  Macs are better than PCs - Team Green proposition side.

For the second debate:
1.  School uniforms should be required - Team Brown opposition side.
2.  Solar energy should replace all traditional forms of energy - Team Teal opposition side.
3. Teachers should be replaced by computers - Team Purple opposition side.
4.  Smoking should be banned - Team Yellow proposition side.

Congratulations to all for a great experience in critical thinking and research!  We may have some future lawyers and/or politicians in our class!
