Last week we began our first Literature Circle activity. The class has been broken into five groups. The grade six students are reading one of the first two books shown here, and all of the grade seven students are reading the last book shown here. At the end of each week of reading, each group will have a meeting and discuss the reading for the week. There are many reading tasks that each student is required to complete, and by the end of April, they will bring home their duo tang with a grade on their work that will require a parent's signature. The grade seven students are lucky in that they get to keep the book they were given and they will be going on a field trip in April to hear a holocaust survivor (Andy Reti - one of the authors of their book) speak. They are encouraged to bring their book that day so that they may get it signed by him! Ask your child about their progress and how they are enjoying their book. All of this work must be done completely at school and the grade sevens will be allowed to bring home their copy of the book after this cycle is complete.
