Scratching the Surface!

Today we experimented with strategies to measure the surface area of 

rectangular prisms.     Students were put into groups and given a cardboard box.  The assignment was to estimate then calculate the actual surface area of the box.  I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to make your thinking visible and to record all of the steps and required information.  Check out the photos below and the anchor charts on the Anchor Chart Library page of this site.
