Wrapping up the Calendar Year

Image result for calendarWe have been working very hard this week to finish many units of study so that we can begin new work in January.  We have been successful in many cases.  Due to the timing of tests and evaluations I will not be sending home work for a parent signature until the New Year.  I am trying to prevent items from getting lost.  The first week back you can anticipate a poetry reading rubric, math test, literacy evaluation, and gym rubric.  Thanks for understanding!

Today, each of my students will be receiving a small Christmas gift of "snowman soup".  Check out the photo below.

Proportional Reasoning and News!

Thank you to all those who handed in their blog math question on time this week.  Three students did not do so and needed to complete their work at recess.

The correct answer to last week's question is  that Prickles grew more because growing 3/7 of the total length is more than 3/8 of the total length.  That is multiplicative thinking.  If you said that they both grew the same because their length increased by 3, that is still additive thinking and we are working to go beyond that.

Please note that there will not be another question until the New Year.  Stay tuned!

Good News

Image result for good news Congratulations to last week's Good News ticket draw winners:  Sabrina, Joe, Ophelia (twice).  Keep up the great work!

Image result for google sheets iconDid you know that our class is currently working on a computer graphing assignment?  We are using Google Sheets which is part of our Google Drive platform to create spreadsheets, bar graphs, and line graphs.  This will be for evaluation when everyone is complete, so it must not be done at home at all.  The students have asked if they could play with making graphs at home and that is fine as long as they do not touch the assignment.  They must open an entirely different Google Sheets document.  I can check on when work was done because it is date and time stamped, so I am sure that everyone will honour this request.  Happy graphing!
