Oral Presentations in Literacy

During the month of November, the students in our class have been completing and presenting their book talks.  The last students will present on Friday November 28.  As a result, the rubrics will be sent home on Friday so that parents can sign them.  Please return them promptly.

Did you know that the next presentation has been assigned and the students are working on it?  For December we are doing a Christmas poetry reading.  What that means is that each student has received a Christmas poem that they will read to the class and demonstrate their use of reading strategies as well as their understanding of the poem.   Those presentations begin on Monday December 1 and should be completed on December 18.  Rubrics will be sent home then for a parent signature as well at that time.

Evaluations

Fortunately, everyone has completed the Science test and it was returned to the students on Tuesday.  Please sign and return them as soon as possible.  All Science presentations are complete except for one group.  The same is true of the the gym presentations.  As soon as all groups are complete, those rubrics will be sent home for parent signatures as well.  When students are repeatedly absent, it makes it difficult to complete tasks that must be completed at school.  Please try to keep absenteeism that is not an illness to a minimum.  Thank you for your cooperation in this manner.

Did you know that the students were treated to the tricycle races on Tuesday afternoon?  Ask them about it.

Did you know that there are two evaluations scheduled for next week?  Please check your child's agenda or our classroom calendar.

Group Work!

Recently we participated in some discussion groups is Family Life.  We were provided with stressful scenarios and we were asked to figure out how to diffuse the stress using one or more of the strategies that we have been talking about.
For math, we worked in groups to discover the features of plotting on a Cartesian plane.  We worked in groups and were able to try two different methods of obtaining ordered pairs.  Please see the anchor chart on the Numeracy Anchor Chart Archives page of this site.

Good News!

Congratulations to the following students who were last week's Good News ticket winners:  Devon.  Keep up the great work!

Many incentives were offered to motivate the students to help to sell MacMillan's products for our fund raiser.  Congratulations to Eric and Devon who have won a seat in the limousine and lunch at Subway with the principal!

Congratulations to our whole class!  We were top sellers for our junior division!  That means that we will have a movie and popcorn at a later date.  Stay tuned... we have earned many rewards and they are on the horizon!  I will publish a list of dates and events in the near future.

It's Christmastime in the City!

Are you in need of some community service hours to complete the requirements for VIP graduation?  Would you like to earn two hours in one shot?  Do you like Christmas?  Do you enjoy working with young children?  If you answered "yes" to one or more of the previous questions, then this opportunity is for you!
I will be facilitating one of the stations at our Family Christmas Event, on Thursday December 4, 2014 and I need volunteers.  My station will be writing letters to Santa for young children that attend the event.  I need grade six volunteers who would be willing to come to school and work from 6-8 PM.  You would be scribing for students who dictate their letters to Santa because they are usually too little to do it themselves.
If you are available on Thursday December 4 from 6-8 PM (you should arrive 10 minutes early) and you are interested in working at this station, please have Mom or Dad jot a note on your agenda on Monday November 24 indicating that you will attend so that I can start a list of volunteers.  Please note that transportation must be provided by your family and you will be supervised for the entire two hour session by me.  Please bring your community service form to the event so that I can fill it out and sign it for you!

Please note:  Not all students have written the science test yet, so it will be returned once all are complete.  Hopefully that will be on Monday.  Thank you so much for your patience!
