Weather Postpones Track Practice

Due to the weather conditions, our plans for working on the track and field events had to be cancelled today.  Weather permitting we will try again Wednesday.  If that fails, there is always next week!
On a positive note, almost our whole class was able to run for six minutes without stopping in the gym today.  I have seen marked improvement in many in the area of stamina and endurance.  WAY TO GO!  Please make sure to have proper attire on Wednesday. :)

It's Track and Field Season Again!

This week our physical education classes will be held outdoors, weather permitting (Monday and Wednesday).  We will be practising 100m and 200m sprints, ball throw, and long jump.  A short list will be created for each event (one per gender) that will be submitted to the Track and Field coaches for nomination for the school team.  NO SKINNY JEANS please.  Appropriate attire and outside running shoes are required.   NO FLIP FLOPS, CROCS, BERKENSTOCKS, ETC.  All will participate as this is our gym class, and  a way to show how your fitness and skills have improved after our 6 minute runs and fitness circuits.

Trip to the Mailbox

Our class headed out for a walk Thursday afternoon to mail the persuasive letters that the students wrote.  They were very excited to do this.  The students had the choice of their audience and purpose for writing, so some parents can expect to receive mail early next week.  The students wonder if they will get any answers......  Ask them about the friendly letters that they are currenly working on.

New math unit

Today we began Unit 9 - Perimeter, Area, and Volume in math.  The students are required to write down the formula they need each time they calculate perimeter, include the units of measure, keep equal signs underneath each other, and SHOW ALL THEIR WORK.  When they are drawing figures, they must use a ruler.  When they are measuring figures, they must measure to the nearest mm.  They learned today not to assume that diagonal lines on grid paper are the same measurement as if they followed the squares on the page.  They must measure diagonal sides on parallelograms, rhombuses, etc.
